Parish Councils

You may have been told about, or maybe experienced yourself, the lack of suitable housing that can be afforded by people in your local area. A young person still living with their parents, a family in cramped or temporary accommodation, or an older person facing the prospect of moving away because they can no longer manage in their home. Helping them can seem a tall order, but as a Parish Council you can play a vital role in meeting their needs.

When local authorities allocate sites for new housing, value is reflective on those sites; elevating house prices and making it difficult to deliver against the needs of households on lower incomes or even median incomes. Whist some affordable housing is provided, it is not allocated specifically to local people. You can help change that by supporting a rural exception scheme.  Rural exception schemes facilitate the provision of affordable homes with priority to local people.

We recognise there may be concerns about local opposition or lack of resources to navigate a complex process.

Rural Housing Partnership has experience of rural exception schemes and building for Housing Associations in rural areas and will work to identify land opportunities.

Whether you have commissioned a housing needs survey  or know a willing landowner but struggling to find a Housing Association to progress a scheme, we can help.

We acknowledge that community and stakeholder engagement is vital. Effective communication is important throughout the process and we will work with the community to progress a rural affordable housing scheme and ensure we keep all parties updated.

Our model allows a professional lead for the project through planning, designing and building affordable homes which allows us to offer a turnkey solution directly with a Housing Association.

We are committed to affordable housing delivery.
